NIKOLAS

Artist

Nikolas (b. 1961, Athens, Greece) studied at the University of Maryland and the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos. His bronze sculptures are inspired by the past, but at the same time create a vision for the future. He is fascinated by the minimalist aesthetic of primitive civilisations, as well as the purity of form in Protocycladic figurines, but also the dynamic movement of Minoan sculpture, which he modernises in order to touch upon universal themes of the human nature, such as love and the quest for spiritual enlightenment. The main subjects of Nikolas’s work are our relationship with ourselves, the world and the cosmos, in an era defined by machine learning.

His sculptures have been presented in one solo exhibition in Greece (SKEPSIS, Anargyrios & Korgialenios School of Spetses, Spetses island, 2020, curated by Annita Apostolaki & Anastasia Manioudaki) and three group exhibitions in Saudi Arabia (NWA Art Gallery, 2019, Artists of KAUST, King Abdullah University of Science & Technology, 2019 & 2020). He has been selected to participate in the 13th Florence Biennale (2021) in Italy. His works can be found in private collections.

He lives and works between Greece and Saudi Arabia.
