LAURENCE JENKELL

LAURENCE JENKELL (1965 – ) lives and works in Vallauris, in the Alpes-maritimes. Self-taught, she started to create on her own in the middle of the 90s. Her artistic research led her to experiment with various techniques such as inclusion, dripping, firing, casting, etc.

After multiple attempts, she successfully mastered and dominated Plexiglas, obtaining the “wrapping” technique, which allowed her to create the Candy sculpture that she is obsessed with since then.

That candy allowed her to exorcise devils of her childhood and made her question herself about her own heredity. The artist transforms it in various imaginative and dreamlike ways. She shapes it, plays around its structure and twists it to arrive quite naturally at the spiral of the DNA double helix. Through this new creative orientation, the artist transmits us a little of her own DNA.

Jenkells’ research is inscribed in an array of creative flavors, tangy colors, textures and fragrances. We can suppose that visual contact with her individual works of art will awaken the feelings of sweet childlike memories and attract our senses as bees are attracted to honey. The vibrations we receive from her work are notes and lyrics of joy, laughter and pure positive energy.

Her pieces are present in more than 25 countries, and many galleries represent her works. In addition, her works are included in major private, public and institutional collections.
